Central Mangrove

Central Mangrove is on the Central Coast of NSW – the sprawling suburbs North of The Hawkesbury River. The completion of the Pacific Motorway (M1) transformed what was once a holiday destination where a few locals worked in fishing and mining into a realistic commuting prospect for those working in Sydney or Newcastle. The population has exploded since the late 1970s. Holiday makers are still attracted to the coastal beaches, towns and lakes while major commercial activity along the expressway, in Newcastle and various local commercial centres provides opportunity for those not working farther afield. Transport out of the region is by train, car and express coach and there are eternal rumours of a fast ferry to Sydney that never quite gets beyond an idea.
