Collingwood is in Melbourne’s Inner North and City Fringe comprising established neighbourhoods whose names are synonymous with Melbourne. Suburbs close to the CBD are full of typically ‘Melbourne’ features like walkability to almost all amenities, trams within 500m of most front doors and relatively dense living in small houses and low-rise blocks of units. Even green space is walkable from much of this area, which is well served for parks and large tracts of green space around Melbourne Zoo, Yarra Bend Park, Edinburgh Gardens and the parks surrounding the CBD. Richmond is especially appealing to worshipers of both Melbourne sporting religions – cricket and AFL – due to its proximity to the MCG. Small parks and green corridors thread their way through the region, following creeks that feed the Yarra. Drivers may wonder why they bother, when trams are so readily available and car traffic can be dense.
