Cronulla is in ‘The Shire’, as Sutherland is affectionately known, and The Hobbit parallel may be appropriate as multiple generations of families love the place and have no plans to leave. You can see why – Sutherland wraps around Port Hacking with the Royal National Park to the south, Georges River and Botany Bay to the north and the Tasman Sea to the East. It is almost as leafy as the Upper North Shore and offers the waters of Botany Bay, Cronulla, Port Hacking and the Georges River too. It even has its own holiday destination, at Bundeena! Schools are good, many locals work within the region and rail commuting is relatively easy North to the CBD and Eastern Suburbs and South to Port Kembla and Wollongong. Commuting northwards by car can be marred by choke points on the bridges over the Georges River.
