Milperra is in Sydney’s tremendously multicultural Canterbury Bankstown region, which was enriched by waves of immigration in the decades since WWII. Commercial centres include Lakemba (home to Australia’s largest mosque), Bankstown and Campsie. The area was important in WWII as a training and mustering point for troops before heading overseas. Sydney’s Air Defence Headquarters controlled air movements in the Eastern South West Pacific from Bankstown airport and Herne Bay military hospital was at Riverwood. The airport remains and is now an international destination for trainee pilots. Housing ranges from small units and townhouses to suburban lots. The railway is a convenient route to the CBD and road access to the North, South and West is relatively easy.
