Suburb Profile for West Pymble
West Pymble is in Sydney’s ‘leafy’ Upper North Shore, following the ridge line from Roseville to Wahroonga. Early European timber getters who dragged logs down to Fiddens Wharf were followed by market gardeners, orchardists and nurserymen, attracted by the ‘European’ style soils, rainfall and microclimate. Now that it’s families – many generations, attracted by gardens, parks and excellent schools – the main crops are camellias and box hedges. Aboriginal history hides in local bushland and place names, and Mona Vale Road follows the Guringai walking route between West Head and a camp site that is now Pymble Bowling Club. Some large homes have been replaced by medium density along the Pacific Highway and railway but ‘East side walk station’ remains the formula for the region’s most desirable property. Rail, and road links to the CBD, Macquarie Park and Central Coast, add to the appeal.
